Dão Wine

Viticulture runs in the veins of this population, dating back centuries, and is one of the main sources of livelihood and wealth for the territory.

The wines of Dão, whose wine region was the first for non-fortified wines to be demarcated. The predominantly granitic soil composition and the mountains that protect it from coastal climatic influences and humidity create optimal conditions. Dão wines are elegant, with intense aromas and perfect maturity. Thanks to their characteristics, these wines pair well with the region's cuisine.

Dão red wine is smooth, ruby-coloured, with a rich aroma and pleasant texture. The white wines, also elegant and smooth, are citrus-coloured and bright, with a delicate flavour. These are predominantly represented in the region by the Encruzado grape, the queen of white varieties that easily reaches the highest quality, along with Bical (or Borrado-das-moscas) and Malvasia-Fina, also known as Arinto do Dão.
